Pulau Sibu is home to a precious seagrass bed located just south of the island - a vital feeding ground for the elusive dugong. Unfortunately, dugongs are increasingly threatened in Malaysian waters. To help protect them, we proudly support the Dugong & Seagrass Conservation Project in partnership with the Marine Parks Department of Malaysia, working together to safeguard these gentle creatures and their fragile habitat.

Pulau Sibu’s sandy beaches aren’t just beautiful - they’re also nesting grounds for sea turtles! We’re proud to host a dedicated turtle hatchery called "Turtle Sanctuary", giving these incredible creatures a safe place to lay their eggs. Sadly, poaching and habitat destruction threaten their survival, which is why sea turtle conservation is vital. Protecting them now means giving future generations a chance to witness their magic.

The ocean covers nearly 70% of our planet, home to an incredible range of marine life - and Pulau Sibu’s coral reefs are no exception. Protecting this biodiversity is essential, not only for the health of the ecosystem but also for our own wellbeing and survival. Over the years, our team and volunteers have rehabilitated damaged coral and we organise regular coastal clean-ups to help keep our waters thriving and our reefs alive.

Southeast Asia’s mangrove forests are incredibly rich in biodiversity and provide essential services that millions rely on - from stabilising shorelines to protecting coastal communities from tsunamis and powerful storms. Recognising their importance, the National Marine Park has entrusted us to lead mangrove conservation and education efforts on Pulau Sibu, a responsibility we proudly embrace.

Across Asia, many tourism businesses rely on local workers yet leave them dependent on tips to make a living. At Twinbeach Sanctuary, we believe in doing better. We depend on the local community - and we honour that by providing fair, sustainable employment. When you stay with us, you’re not only supporting island livelihoods, you’re also gaining authentic knowledge and experiences that only local experts can offer.

Over its lifetime, a solar PV system in the tropics can generate more than 50% more electricity than the same system in Europe or North America. At Twinbeach Sanctuary, we replace diesel generators with clean, affordable solar energy, powering lighting, fans, and essential facilities while optimising performance and reducing costs.

At Twinbeach Sanctuary, not a single drop goes to waste. We collect and repurpose greywater to support a variety of operations, from showers to maintaining kayaks. This simple, practical approach demonstrates how everyday water can be used responsibly, protecting local ecosystems while giving guests a hands-on example of sustainable water management.

As urbanisation increases, proper waste management has become a critical environmental challenge - especially for fragile island ecosystems. At Twinbeach Sanctuary, we follow sustainable development principles, carefully sorting, recycling, and composting waste wherever possible. This approach not only protects the local environment but also teaches guests practical ways to live more sustainably.
We actively align our work with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on key areas that matter to both people and the planet — including No Poverty (SDG 1), Good Health & Wellbeing (3), Quality Education (4), Clean Water & Sanitation (6), Affordable & Clean Energy (7), Sustainable Communities (11), Responsible Consumption (12), Climate Action (13), Life Below Water (14), and Life on Land (15).
